Money! The Flying Lizards said “The best things in life are free, but you can give them to the birds and bees; I want money!
This is not about money or the Flying Lizards’ one-hit wonder song but more about controlling your budget, specifically your technology budget. Every organization has a determined allowance set up around what it should take to run your business’ tech stack. Is it the right number, and is it a reasonable dollar amount? How can you decide this without showing all your cards to your suppliers? It’s like having the “Rooster watch the Hen House”. Here is your answer!
CASE STUDY:
Client Profile:
- A technology refresh is needed on the client network to satisfy the new “Cyber Security Insurance” requirements.
- Users are complaining that the network is running slow, and they experienced uptime internet instability. The client was of the mindset that increasing the size of the Internet circuit would just fix the problem.
- New applications are put on the network that the business needs to run the business.
- Limited internal expertise is available to put all the demands together.
How CTG helped our client:
This was a 3 Part Approach: Corporate Technologies Group was tasked by our client to find a solution that wasn’t going to break the bank and solve their problems. Here is what it looked like at the end of the day:
- After a discussion with the client on what the goals and budgetary needs were, the first point of reference was to review the Cyber Security Insurance requirements. It was decided the client needed to put in new network edge technology to help stay one step ahead from a compliance standpoint and a Penetration Test was done to help find any security issues. CTG helped with the evaluation as this was part of “Unifying” the project by looking at multiple solutions that would check all the network boxes.
- Secondly, Corporate Technologies Group evaluated the content on the client’s network as to what applications were dominating it. This helped our client watch up time and bandwidth utilization on a real-time basis. This is something that the client could do on their own or have CTG manage this for them. Not only did this help with the management of the company’s Internet network, but it also helped with the reduction of unproductive non-business / social media traffic from being used during business hours. (INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY).
- The last part of the project was to provide priority routing on the respective applications so apps that aren’t “time sensitive” or business-related are listed as a lower routing priority. In doing this, the customer didn’t have to increase their bandwidth (COST) at all, and their network performance was drastically improved.
Since CTG worked for the client’s needs, helped in the design, and took an agnostic approach regarding what was “best” for the client, the complete list of issues was solved on time and on budget. It wasn’t just about putting in new and throwing out the old; evaluation was the key to “Unifying the Solution.”
